Two years ago today

I married my best friend!  I can’t believe it’s been two years already!  I remember that day like it was yesterday.  It was truly one of the best days of my life.  It was so much fun to have all our friends and family there to celebrate with us.  But most of all it was wonderful to finally become Mrs. Kimberly McCoy… Patrick’s wife!  At the time if you had told me I was going to love Patrick even more than I did that day I would have said it wasn’t possible.  But now today I can say yes it’s so true.  Everyday I grow to love him more and I look forward to every new day with him.  Here’s to many, many, many more years together!  I love you Patrick!

Just a few pictures from that fabulous day!

Our 1st dance.

Time for cake!

The end of a wonderful day but the start of a brand new special life together!

We had a great Christmas this year!  We got another early Christmas present on Dec. 21st when our niece Quinn Lennon Warwick was born.    We can’t wait to meet her!

Chris, Miranda, Sandra, & Quinn... A family of 4!

My parents came up from FL to spend Christmas with us this year.  The night they got here we went to see the Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo.  It was so pretty this year because not only were their tons of lights, but also snow on the ground.  It was a cold night but we still had a ton of fun seeing all the lights and the animals!

Mom, Dad, and me at Festival of Lights.

Me and my guy!

Christmas Eve this year turned out to be really special.  I made dinner for my parents and Patrick’s parents.  We had a great time visiting with each other.  Ariel came and joined us around 10 pm and then we headed off for Christmas Eve services at our church.  Brennan, Laura, and Kal-el met us there too.  It was so nice to have our entire family together for worship.  Patrick and Ariel played their piano duet as a part of the Christmas Eve worship service.  I was so proud of them… they did a wonderful job and it was so nice to see them using their talents to worship God!

Christmas Day was just a wonderful day of family and celebrating.  We spent the morning at home with my parents opening gifts and playing with new gadgets.  After opening gifts we continued on our tradition of making Monkey Bread (oh it’s so good!) and had a wonderful breakfast.  My parents got from their kids a Skype Phone so we set it up and called Chris, Sandra, Miranda, and Quinn.  Miranda showed us all of her Christmas presents and we got to see little Quinn for the 1st time.  It was so nice to be able to see them and talk with them on Christmas morning!  Here are a few pictures of our morning together…

Me with my new purse and perfume that Patrick got for me :)In the afternoon we went over to Patrick’s parents house for more gift opening and then dinner with more family.  It was really special to have Kal-el with us this year.  Last year he wasn’t able to celebrate Christmas with us because he was still in the NICU.

The McCoy Family

Olinnie was never far from our minds this Christmas.  Chris and Sandra gave me an awesome hip hammock and a subscription to Parents Magazine for Christmas.  I can’t even begin to say how many gifts I opened at Grandma’s that were addressed to Olinnie’s Mommy or were from Olinnie’s future grandparents :)  Everyone wanted to know if next year Olinnie would be with us for Christmas and as their Mommy… I really hope so!

Christmas Came Early!

Today was a day full of great news for our adoption.  This morning I got an email from our social worker telling me that our OH Child Abuse Clearances were in.  We have no idea how or why they came in today.  Our social worker got some vague response that our paperwork was found and the reports had been done.  Praise God!

Tonight our social worker came out to our house to complete Patrick’s individual interview and also Ariel’s individual interview.  Both interviews went very well.  Yay!  She also told us that she got in the mail my Child Abuse Clearance from Maryland which means all of our paperwork is in and all of our visits are done as of today!  If you had told me that was going to happen at the beginning of the week I would never have believed it.

All that is left is for her to finish writing the report.  Then we will get a rough draft to look over and then she’ll do the final copy.  She wasn’t sure if she’d get to finish it before Christmas but thought we should have it done by the 1st week in January!

It feels awesome to have the home study basically done and to be thinking about moving onto the next step in this journey…  Approval from the US government to bring a child into the country!

Finally a side note…

Patrick and I needed to come to a decision on the age range for our child because that needs to be a part of the home study.  After talking about it we decided to make the age range 0 to 25 months.  We might have to wait a little longer for a referral because we put a lower age range but felt the positives of having a younger child out weighed the possibility of a longer wait.   So it looks like we’ll be most likely bringing home a child who’s between 1 and 2 years old :)

So today I had my interview with our social worker for our home study. It was a great interview, full of deep questions, thoughtful responses, and mutual respect. That is, until I got the question, “So I don’t know how to ask this, but I’m not sure that there is a direct Chinese translation for the word ‘Boobies.’ Can you clarify how you answered in your questionnaire what attracted you to your spouse?”
“I think I forgot what I wrote as a response for that question.”
“Sir, you wrote, and I quote, ‘Her boobies.'”
“I think I’ll just reword that in my report as ‘physical attraction.'”

Luckily, I think that despite this, that she is still going to approve us for adoption. Time will tell. Our home study is due back in 2-3 more weeks…

Lost Paperwork… Ugh!

On Friday I had emailed the office that does the OH Child Abuse clearances to check on our paperwork and see where we were in line as far as getting our clearance.  First thing this morning I got an email that said that they had NO record of our request for a child abuse clearance for OH :(  She said that we could send in a copy of the form we had previously sent or send in a new form directly to her and she’d get to it as quickly as possible.  I then forwarded this email onto our social worker to see if I had contacted the same office that she had sent our forms to.  Our social worker called me and was floored that they did not have our paperwork.  She had sent our requests by certified mail and had a delivery confirmation of Oct. 10th.  Our social worker then called the supervisor for that division and left what I am sure was a very “nice” message and a request for them to call her back.  She told me that they never return phone calls but she hoped to hear from them today.  I guess we’ll see.  Our social worker said that she now has the ability to submit our request electronically so she will do that for us today if she doesn’t hear from the supervisor.

The bad news is I have no idea how this will affect us getting these clearances and when they will come in now and neither does our social worker.  This may unfortunately put us back at the beginning of our wait for these clearances… a wait that is about 4 months :(  I’m praying that somehow this helps to get our clearances a little faster.  It may be wishful thinking but some OH Child Abuse Clearances would be a WONDERFUL Christmas present.

Individual Interview for Kimberly… Done :)

Our social worker came over to our house today at lunch time for my individual interview.  Once we sat down she said that this was really going to be easy because I had answered all my questions so well on my social history.  We spent about an hour just talking about some of the things I had said in my paperwork, but most of it was really general stuff like work history and talking about my family.  Easy stuff :)  After that she did walk through the house and completed our safety audit and then we were done.  Patrick is supposed to do his interview next week but she said today she may change that appointment to an evening one so she can talk with Ariel too.  If she does that, then that will be our last visit and the only thing we’ll be waiting for are those child abuse clearances to be done.

The sad news, for me, was she shared that the last clearances that she got back from OH were for a couple who had put their request in for them back in August.  It took 4 months to get them back!  She said she has no idea when ours will come in and that just makes me sad… 4 months will put us into February :(  After she left I went onto some adoption message boards and asked how long other people in OH had waited for their clearances; I’m interested to see what responses I get.  I also decided to take matters into my own hands and emailed the contact person for the OH clearances myself to see if I could get a response about why they were taking so long and when we might get ours back.   On their website they said that you usually get the clearances in 30 days but it might take longer.

Child Abuse Clearances are FRUSTRATING!!!!

I just lost an hour of my life being transfered all over the Montgomery County Department of Social Services offices trying to figure out why my child abuse clearance has not arrived yet.  I sent in my form 2 months ago and was told if I sent it to the county I lived in while in MD that I’d get the results much faster.  2 months later and my social worker still doesn’t have my clearance so I began calling to see what was taking so long.  The problem is… no one knew where my form went when it arrived in Montgomery County and really no one understood what it was that I needed.  It was SO FRUSTRATING.  I was transfered from one office to the next and each person was very nice but had no idea where my paperwork would have gone :(  Finally I called the main social services office in Baltimore and spoke with someone in their In Home Services office which was the other option of where to send the form.  She was so nice and told me to send her a copy of the original form and she would process it for me.  I asked how long she thought that might take and she said 1 week at the most!  Can you believe it… I’ve been waiting 2 months for a form that should be able to get back to me easily by Christmas.  Ugh!  Well at least it should be here soon.

We are still waiting for our OH Child Abuse Clearances…  If it really takes 90 days then we’re looking at getting them back around the 1st week in January.  It’d be really nice if they’d come back sooner than that.  Once these 2 clearances are in all of our paperwork will be done for the home study.

Patrick and I have scheduled our individual interviews with our social worker.  I’m going to be meeting with her on Friday and Patrick is going to be meeting with her next Thursday (12/16).  Once these interviews are done we’ll have one more visit with her and then be done :)  Come on clearances… let’s get this home study done so we can begin to work on getting permission from the US government to bring a child into the country!
